Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup water
- Taco shells or tortillas
- Toppings of your choice: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. This is your easy beef taco seasoning.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spoon. Sprinkle the homemade beef taco seasoning over the ground beef and stir well to ensure it’s evenly coated.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the seasoned ground beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- Add water and stir, simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the homemade taco seasoning to meld with the beef.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare your favorite taco toppings. Shred lettuce, dice tomatoes, shred cheese, and set out sour cream, salsa, and guacamole.
- Warm your taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions. Fill each taco with the seasoned ground beef mixture. Add your desired toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use high-quality ground beef for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of chili powder and cayenne pepper to control the spiciness.
- Toast your taco shells or tortillas for added texture and flavor.
- Get creative with your toppings – try adding grilled corn, black beans, or pickled onions.
- For spicier tacos, add more cayenne pepper or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the seasoning.
- Mix shredded cheese into the ground beef mixture before filling the tacos for extra cheesiness.
- Store leftover seasoned ground beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
